Quicktime Vulnerability in Windows - Quicktime Support in Clipster

Jorge Zepeda -

The United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team issued an alert (TA16105-A) recommending Windows users uninstall Apple QuickTime from their computers.

CLIPSTER has extensive support for different file formats, and R&S has made it a priority to limit the dependency on QuickTime libraries for read and write support. CLIPSTER only uses Quicktime to encode & decode select codecs, and only when wrapped in .MOV. For other wrappers, there is no dependency on Quicktime.

CLIPSTER users can choose to remove Quicktime from their CLIPSTER systems to avoid vulnerability.

Without Quicktime, CLIPSTER will no longer have support for these codecs:

Reading from .MOV: H264, MPEG4-Video, MJPEGA, MJPEGB, Animation, Apple BMP, Cineform, AAC

Reading from .AVI: Cineform

Writing to .MOV: H264, MPEG4-Video, MJPEGA, MJPEGB, Animation, Apple BMP, AAC

CLIPSTER will continue to support the following codecs wrapped in .mov even after removing QuickTime:

YUV 4:2:2 8-Bit  (2vuy)
YUV 4:2:2 10-Bit (v210)
ProRes
DV
DVCPro
DVCProHD
DNxHD
DNx444
IMX
XDCAM HD
XDCAM EX
XDCAM HD422
AVCI-50
AVCI-100
